He also wrote USC's Fotokem Gold Award-winning film EFRAIN. 1ST PRIZE

KRONOS

by Alain Soussokho

Five strangers awaken with no memory on a large space station orbiting Earth. As they explore the massive facility in search of their identities, they discover that the station can throw them into increasingly dangerous situations involving the present, the past and the future.

Alain Soussokho fell in love with English language and literature at a very young age. His writing is more inspired in English than in his native tongue but always let French and European influences seep into his work. Soussokho loves crafting stories where mystery, action and Sci-Fi collide, trying to pay a humble tribute to his literary masters Stanley Kubrick, Philip K. Dick and John Carpenter.

2ND PRIZE

Joyless

by Jocelyn & Ryan Manns

The galaxy's most dangerous criminal is pursued across the stars by a bounty hunter she's hopelessly in love with. Both were victims of a new kind of crime: the theft of memories. He thinks she's wronged him and is out for revenge, but Jane's searching for the truth about their relationship, and her own mysterious past.

Jocelyn lives and works in Los Angeles. She is a writer and performer with the Money Pit sketch comedy team, based out of the Ruby Theater LA. She is a graduate of the University of Texas - Austin, where she studied Radio-TV-Film and worked at the campus television station. She writes as part of a team with her older brother Ryan, whom she does not look up to. In her spare time, she collects perfume, like some sort of Disney villain.

Ryan is a New York based writer. After graduating from Rutgers with degrees in economics and psychology, he went on to study improv and sketch at the Upright Citizens Brigade, and can be seen in a variety of shows including the It Sucks Awards and Late Night Packet Jam. An avid music fan, he formerly hosted a radio show on 90.3 the Core and has written music reviews and listicles for GetAlternative.com. During college, he ran the popular Twitter account @NBUnderground, a live events aggregator serving New Brunswick, New Jersey (home of Rutgers University). He has published several card and board games, working most often with Uncle Andy's Toys. He writes with his younger sister Jocelyn, who looks up to him a great deal, probably. In his spare time, he can be found scouring the earth for the perfect scrambled egg.

3RD PRIZE

Kingdom of God

by Travis J. Opgenorth

Before Jesus of Nazareth became the Messiah, other zealots waged war against their Roman occupiers and Jewish countrymen. In the midst of this bloody holy war, Christianity came into being... Kingdom of God is its origin story.

A conqueror of fears, Travis has taken his acrophobia to the top of a 108-foot-tall Mayan temple, swam with sharks, hunted ghosts, and attended a mixer where he knew no one. In the last six years, he's finished in the top three or won over 20 contests with 11 different scripts. Travis has also worked on feature projects with companies like Eclectic Pictures, Papa Octopus Productions, Votiv Films, and Sixth Sense Productions. He lives in L.A., but calls Sheboygan, WI home.

SPECIAL JURY PRIZE (TIE)

Deadfellows

by Kody Hamilton

After a harsh breakup, a depressed man moves into his new apartment with express intent to kill himself, until a group of ghosts haunting the residence stop him because they can’t spare the space of having another spectral roommate.

"I grew up in Albuquerque, New Mexico where I experienced firsthand much of the social clashes that happen every day in this country. I was raised by my two mothers, who worked to keep my life stable despite my conservative father’s effort. That dynamic, along with extensive anxiety in my teenage years, informs my work now. My goal now is to create work that satisfies the escapism I constantly felt in need of when I was with my father, while also conveying the relief of home my mothers gave me."
